ORGANIC BINDERS USED IN CIVIL ENGINEERING - CHEMICAL IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL METHODS

LES LIANTS ORGANIQUES UTILISES EN GENIE CIVIL-METHODES CHIMIQUES D'IDENTIFICATION ET DE CONTROLE

This document follows the information note entitled: "organic binders used in civil engineering - basic principles - terminology" (see IRRD abstract no 106171). The aim of this note is to show how the fractioning/infrared spectra/functional proportioning system facilitates the identification of an organic binder. Details are given of infrared spectroscopy, filtration, extraction with solvents, distillation, and chromatography methods. A brief study is presented of potentiometry in non aqueous media and a table gives the main applications of this technique. (TRRL)
