EXPERIMENTS WITH RADIO CONTROLLED INITIATION OF AVALANCHES DURING THE WINTER OF 1978/79

FORSOEK MED RADIOSTYRT UTLOESNING AV SNOESKRED VINTEREN 78/79

During the last two winters experiments have been performed with radio controlled release of avalanches in Napefonn, near the Main Road No 15, at Strynefjell in Norway. Not until last winter did the equipment function satisfactorily, and avalanches were initiated by explosives three times. The method is based on connecting a power supply to an electric cap which sets off the dynamite by use of receiver and a transmitter. The receiver consists of a radio, a clock, and a high voltage blaster. The equipment has been developed in cooperation with A/S Teleplan, who have been responsible for the electronics. (TRRL)
