SOCIAL RESEARCH TECHNIQUES. A REFERENCE MANUAL

Following an outline of the manual in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 provides an introductory framework and a general setting for the techniques. Various open-ended qualitative techniques are specified in Chapter 3, and in Chapter 4 some developments of basic qualitative techniques are discussed. Chapter 5 is concerned with the use of attitudinal questions in structured surveys. A general discussion of the use of attitude scaling techniques in the transport field appears in Chapter 6. The theoretical basis underlying the various approaches to the construction of attitude scales is contained in an appendix which includes an extensive bibliography. Chapter 7 consists of a summary of the relative costs of the various techniques and the order of skills which are required at various stages in their use. (TRRL)
