Global Urban Typology Discovery with a Latent Class Choice Model
Urban typologies are important for analyzing the impact of mobility policies across different city types. To date, extant work conducted on these have either relied on old data or used empirical methods. In this paper, the authors use the latest available data from 330 cities along with a unique survey dataset with global coverage. The authors apply an exploratory approach to discover 7 urban typologies, which are confirmed by a novel latent class choice model the authors develop. The authors also show how the latent class choice model can be used to provide further insight into the classification.
