Extended Abstract: Prioritizing Assets for Inclusion in Transportation Asset Management Programs

This paper provides a summary of a methodology that will aid highway asset owners and maintenance personnel with determining what assets, beyond pavements and bridges are most important to support their agencies’ mission and goals. The methodology prioritizes classes of assets and identifies data related to those assets that best support a performance-based approach to managing the condition and utilization of those assets. A reliability-centered maintenance (RCM)-based approach for determining the most effective maintenance strategy is introduced. The use of civil integrated management (CIM) for integrating data management across the agency is also discussed. The methodology presented in this paper is comprehensive, yet flexible, so it may be tailored to each agency’s specific needs.
