The load distribution on endbearing batter piles on rock has been examined through laboratory model tests on a group of piles. The model test results have been compared to the theoretical load distribution obtained, using two existing calculation methods, the "pile" method does not consider the fixing effect of the soil on the piles, while the "Aschenbrenner" method takes this effect into account. The tests include various load conditions, and show that the "Aschenbrenner" method provides results which correspond well with the measured values. It is quite likely that this fact will be of great economic importance in pile group design, especially when considering bridge abutments, as the more commonly used "pile" method tends to overestimate resulting pile loads.
