Bridge maintenance is the continuing management of completed structures to ensure that they continue to perform their intended function. Effective bridge maintenance is a management cycle requiring records, an understanding of the deterioration which affects components, inspection and reports, the evaluation and priority of works, repairs, emergency equipment, provision for access and for road traffic and the general overall organisation in a multi-tier authority.
