This is the final report of the A.A.R.'s prototype locomotive cab seat in-service, user evaluation tests. These tests involved a total of 1289 cab crewmembers evaluating four prototype seats and the regular seats in use on fourteen different railroads. These crewmen also reported use of adjustment features, common complaints, and discomfort resulting from seat design. In addition to an overall evaluation of the seats, crewmembers' evaluations of selected seat characteristics are also reported. These evaluations, along with anthropometric and duty requirements, serve as the basis for a recommended set of generic specifications for future locomotive cab seats to be incorporated in new engine deliveries which could be universally acceptable to labor, government and management.
