SIMPLIFYING THE QUALITY TESTING PROCEDURES FOR CONCRETE CARRIAGEWAYS

Using the opportunity presented by repairs to a concrete carriageway in Vienna, comparative tests were made on plasticized concrete. Results: samples in the form of a beam 12 x 12 x 36 cm corresponding to oenorm (Austrian standard) b 3303 stored under water had the same crushing strength as 20 cm cubes, which had been kept damp for 7 days and left in the air until the twenty-eighth day. The mean values of two samples in the form of beams scattered only insignificantly more than the 28 day strength of 20 cm cubes. In respect of the concrete under investigation the manufacture of cubes could be renounced without any disadvantage for the testing process and the crushing strength of beam samples may be determined, in connection with which the 28 day strength may be based upon a conversion factor of 1.00%.
