ON CALCULATION OF A NONOPTIMAL SCREW PROPELLER ACCORDING TO VORTEX THEORY
The vortex theory method for designing propellers of G. I. Maykapar, A. M. Lepilkin, and D. V. Khalezov (Aerodinamicheskiy raschet vintov po lopastnoy teorii. BNI TsAGI, M., 1940), which was originally proposed for aircraft propellers, is simplified. The work was done to obtain better agreement of theory with experiment under higher loads. Calculation of the circulation and induced velocity of a nonoptimal moderately loaded propeller is examined, and the operating curves are plotted. The calculations are compared with experimental data. Calculation of the operating curves by the proposed method does not give lower accuracy than the common methods. The proposed method makes it possible to determine with sufficient accuracy not only the total forces, but also the value and nature of the circulation distribution about the radius of the blade over a wide range of operating conditions.
