This report deals with the research project for a long life car for the Prosche firm, produced by the BMFT. This volume is the final report of Phase 1. Forecasts are given regarding the imminence of long life cars taking into consideration benefits and costs with the aim of optimizing the life span whilst observing all relevant technical and economical requirements such as safety, environmental protection, reuse of materials, production costs, effects on the vehicle industry and service field as well as the consequences for the total national economy of long life cars.
