SHIPS OF TOMORROW. SOME POSSIBILITIES AND PROSPECTS

After a review of the recent past and the present situation, future technological possibilities and prospects are suggested. Ships are considered both as transport vehicles and as means to exploit such ocean resources as fisheries and seabed minerals. Prospects for widespread use of unconventional propulsion systems are assessed. Trends in ship research and means for maximizing valuable results from such research are discussed.
