MAJOR YUGOSLAV AND INTERNATIONAL TRAFFIC CORRIDORS AND THEIR CONSTRUCTION

STANJE I IZGRADNJA VELIKIH JUGOSLOVENSKIH I MEDJUNARODNIH PROJMETNIH KORIDORA

The article advocates a new approach to the solution of this complex question, with basic details of existing transport along important traffic corridors, and the relation between economic development and infrastructure which is governed by certain definite rules. Main directions of traffic flow do not always coincide with development. Natural and social economic conditions in Yugoslavia make possible for the time being, the formation of seven basic traffic corridors in the north-south and the east-west directions within which are several types of traffic. Of special importance is the use of sea and its influence on the development of land transport. The Yugoslav traffic corridors represent parts of similar corridors in the neighbouring countries where their formation is being increased. Special attention is paid to major motorways for linking together wider regions of Europe, North Africa and the Near East, such as the "Brotherhood and Unity" and the north-south motorways. The necessity for co-ordination and co-operation is stressed in the realisation of forthcoming extensive activities, otherwise there will be a grave danger of bypassing Yugoslavia and its road system, even for its own needs in connection with import and export activities. /TRRL/
