Signaling System and Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System Upgrade to Transit Test Track at the Transportation Technology Center

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI) have upgraded the Positive Train Control (PTC) Test Bed at the Transportation Technology Center (TTC) in Pueblo, Colorado, by adding cab signaling and Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System (ACSES) infrastructure to the Transit Test Track (TTT). The project was conducted because of industry requests that indicated the need for a PTC Test Bed, which would use ACSES and Automatic Train Control (ATC) cab signaling on a Direct Current (DC) third rail electrified railway. TTCI developed and implemented a design for deploying ACSES, which uses an ATC-compliant signal system with cab signaling, and ACSES transponders and track database on the TTT (which employs a DC-electrified third rail). The required structures and equipment were installed and checkouts were performed.
