STRESS-STRAIN BEHAVIOUR OF SOILS DURING CYCLIC-DYNAMIC LOADING

COMPORTAMIENTO TENSION-DEFORMACION DE LOS SUELOS SOMETIDOS A CARGAS CICLICAS Y DINAMICAS

The stress-strain behaviour of soils during seismic and other cyclic-dynamic loading is very complex, due mainly to the particular nature of the material, and, very often, to the presence of water in the voids of the soil. In general, soil can be characterized as a nonlinear (even at very small strains), hysteretic, frequency-independent and frictional material, with a strong coupling between shear stresses and volumetric strains. A key parameter in defining the stress-strain behaviour is the level of cyclic shear strain. /TRRL/
