The article briefly reviews the IMCO requirements governing the damage stability of offshore supply ships covered by the Det norske Veritas SF notation. These requirements are based on side damage with a transverse extent of 760 mm extending vertically for the full depth of the ship up to the underside of the cargo deck and occurring between transverse watertight bulkheads. Survival criteria to be complied with during the final stage of flooding are listed. The need for a minimum floatability standard on offshore supply ships with the SF notation is illustrated with reference to an accident in a North Sea oilfield. Order from BSRA as No. 51,276
