THE ROLE OF ALCOHOL IN FATAL ROAD ACCIDENTS. FACTUAL DATA AND BASIS FOR STATISTICAL CALCULATIONS

ALKOHOLENS ROLL I TRAFIKOLYCKOR MED DOEDLIG UTGAANG. FAKTAMATERIAL SAMT UNDERLAG FOER STATISTISKA BERAEKNINGAR

A study of statistical data on the role of alcohol in road accidents occasionally reveals such wide variations as to provoke suspicion of defective collection and compilation of data and incorrect assessment of basic facts. The data on the number of road accidents caused by alcohol can vary, for example, between 5% and 65% of the total. The authors indicate the importance of studying the role of those injured in traffic. In the investigation presented here 60% of the male motorists killed in one-car accidents were under the influence of alcohol, while all the cyclists run over were sober. (TRRL)
