LOW FREQUENCY NOISE AND VIBRATIONS IN BUS DRIVER COMPARTMENTS. PART 1 AND 2

The purpose was to study the generation of low frequency noise and vibrations in long distance and local buses at various driving speeds and road conditions in order to evaluate driver exposure. Recordings of signals from noise and vibration sensors were made by means of a four-channel fm tape recorder. The following results were obtained: low frequency noise increased with increased speed; 112 db (il) were obtained at 90 km/h (long distance bus) and 50 km/h (local bus); higher db (il) levels were obtained on icy roads than on smooth asphalt roads; clear tones over critical band width level were found for local bus on smooth asphalt roads; and vibrations increased with increased speed. In some cases the values exceeded the curves for reduced comfort and working ability with 8 hours. (TRRL)
