TWO DIMENSIONAL SWAY ADDED MASS COEFFICIENTS FOR VESSELS MANEUVERING IN RESTRICTED WATER

Using a finite element method, the two dimensional sway added mass coefficient is determined for rectangular, triangular and semicircular ship shaped sections in a selection of channel shapes. The influence of water depth, proximity and slope of the walls of the channel section are investigated and comparisons made with other analytical calculations. A comparision is made between theoretically and experimentally derived hydrodynamic data for a tanker model. Order from NSFI as No. 18512.
