The author reviews the section of the 6th International Chemistry Congress, Moscow, 21/28 September 1974 which includes a main paper by talaber,j and eight supplementary papers. These papers deal particularly with hydration and carbonation; the necessity of using sound concrete, hence a minimum w/c ratio, a sufficient cement content and adequate curing, is reviewed. The author underlines the points upon which he is not in agreement with Mr Talaber, in particular concerning the action of CO2 on aluminates and the limitations of use of such cements. On this topic he refers to the existence of the circular promulgated in 1970 by the Ministere de l'Equipement et du Logement, as well as a paper by Messrs Cottin and Reif published in the Revue des Materiaux de Contruction (1970) which related to the porosity/strength relationship. /TRRL/
