ACCURACY OF ESTIMATING CONCRETE STRENGTH USING THE SCLEROMETER INDEX

LA PRECISION DE L'ESTIMATION DE LA RESISTANCE DU BETON AU MOYEN DE L'INDICE SCLEROMETRIQUE

This study has two objectives:- (1) to determine the accuracy of sclerometer measurements; (2) to verify if it is applicable to lightweight structural concrete. The tests have been carried out on ordinary concrete samples from industrial mixes and from laboratory lightweight concrete samples. In order to judge the validity of the sclerometer index, the standard deviation and coefficient of variation have been calculated for each cube. The dispersion of the measurements is found to be of the same order of magnitude for both types of concrete. For estimating concrete strength, the calibration curve provided by the contractor has been used. The regression line between the effective cube strength and its sclerometer index was established. It appears that the probable concrete strength is best estimated by calibration curves for each particular case. /TRRL/
