UNCERTAINTIES IN ACCIDENT PREVENTION BY CHANGES IN ATTITUDES

ZUR PROBLEMATIK DER UNFALLVERHUETUNG DURCH EINSTELLUNGSAEDERUNG

This report considers the significance of attitude towards the occurrence of accidents. A change in attitude for the purpose of preventing accidents should, inter alia, produce an increased awareness of dangerous situations, a critical assessment of ones own qualities and the anticipation of long term consequences. In the second part of the work an attempt is made to demonstrate the learning process of vehicle drivers. In regard to the application of the rules of learning towards accident prevention by means of attitude alteration a difference is made between changes of learning conditions in road traffic and changes in the evaluation of situations and behaviour consequences. Reference is made particularly to the timely introduction of desire value learning processes. Finally the problem is raised of specific driver training programmes for extreme groups (driver improvement). /TRRL/
