SECONDARY INJURIES ASSOCIATED WITH EYE TRAUMA DUE TO IMPACT WITH THE WINDSCREEN

BEGLEITVERLETZUNGEN BEI TRAUMEN MIT AUGENBETEILIGUNG DURCH STURZ IN DIE WINDSCHUTZSCHEIBE

On the basis of evaluation of the patients in the university eye-clinic in Muenster concerning secondary injuries associated with eye injuries caused by windscreens it was found that apart from shock skull fractures the commotio or contusio cerebri are the most frequent associated injuries. The cause for this arises from the analysis of the motion of the injured person during the impact. Following initial infusion therapy repeated specialised x-ray diagnosis for the detection of possible skull fractures represents an important step for ensuring a profitable co-operation between the various disciplines involved in the treatment of head injuries. /TRRL/
