POLICE HELICOPTERS USED FOR POLICE TRAFFIC CONTROL AT THE HANOVER TRADE FAIR

POLIZEIHUBSCHRAUBER IM VERKEHRSPOLIZEILICHEN EINSATZ BEI DER HANNOVER-MESSE

Within the framework of police traffic control, police helicopters were used at the Hanover trade fair with a crew consisting of a pilot, flight mechanic and a police official. The helicopters which were equipped with television cameras are used during peak traffic periods. One helicopter supervises the immediate trade fair area, whilst a second covers the whole city area and federal motorways around Hanover. The pictures transmitted by all the cameras, including those mobile and stationary, are received in a monitoring room at the operation control point, so that a continuous assessment of the traffic situation can be carried out. The duties of the helicopter crews include: the general supervision of traffic flows, control of the traffic intensity in regions of single traffic direction, establishing traffic hot spots and disturbances and their reasons, preparation of aerial photographs of the trade fair parking areas or of bad road accidents, providing the control centre with recommendations for directing traffic, and, directing drivers by loud speakers. Finally it is established that by objective comprehensive traffic control in recent years there has been no serious traffic delay in Hanover. /TRRL/
