NEW IG SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: ITS TIME TO GET STARTED

Describes in considerable detail the differences between an inert gas system (IGS) and inert gas generators (IGG). More important, it covers the factors every operator should consider in retrofitting his vessel in order to obtain a satisfactory installation. It then outlines ways to retrofit a ship with with an IGS or IGG system. These fall into four possible arrangements with the primary supplier of the components. These are (1) main components only (2) main components and engineering (3) main components, engineering and package assembly and (4) free turnkey delivery. A comprehensive overall concept of the system to be retrofitted is the absolutely essential factor on which shipowners must insist. A well planned installation with single point responsibility will be found to be the least expensive.
