MANAGEMENT SERVICES AS AN AID TO INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY IN SHIPBUILDING

This case study covers the inception of Fairfields ( Glasgow ) Ltd, taking a bankrupt ship-building company and making it viable. This was a voluntary association of government, private capital and trade union capital. In changing the company structure, the main difference was the introduction of a productivity services organization, whose departments ( industrial engineering, organization and methods, programming and control, quality control, and personnel services ) are described.
