IMPACT BENDING TESTS ON VARIOUSLY REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS

SCHLAG-HIEGEVERSUCHE MIT UNTERSCHIEDLICH BEWEHRTEN STAHLBETONBALKEN

In order to determine the suitability of Reinforcing Steel III (Grade BST 420/500) as reinforcement for members which may be subject to impact loading, tests were carried out on reinforced concrete beams containing varying amounts of reinforcement in a new type of impact test apparatus. Evaluation of the test results showed that the use of Type III reinforcing steel is not likely to result in brittle fractures despite its low elongation at failure when subject to impact loading. /TRRL/
