How to Stripe a National Park
This article describes work of general contractor S.T. Rhoades Construction and subcontractor Apply-A Line to restripe the pavement in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. A primary concern was the completion of work with minimal disruption to park visitors, particularly as the park did not allow any of its 20 parking lots to be closed while work was being completed on them. The article discusses the planning and execution of the project, highlighting the park's communication of planned work to visitors, project scheduling, traffic control, and ways in which the workers adapted to unexpected challenges.
