THE EFFECT OF CARBON MONOXIDE ON OPERATIVES DURING EXHAUST FUMES SAMPLING

DIE BELASTUNG EINES ABGASBEAUFTRAGTEN DURCH KOHLENMONOXID BEI DFZ-ABGASKONTROLLEN

An experimental investigation was carried out to determine the effect of exhaust fumes sampling on the cohb content in the blood of the operatives. For this purpose blood samples were taken before the start of sampling work and at regular intervals thereafter and tested for cohb content. Subjectively the individual experienced a general lassitude. The cohb values were found to be significantly higher than those of traffic police personnel. The operator of the sampling apparatus works in close proximity to the source of exhaust gases and so is exposed to very high CO concentrations. It is therefore essential that a lengthy rest period is provided at the end of each two hours work. (TRRL)
