THREE-PARAMETER MODEL FOR A SUBGRADE AND A GROUP OF PILES TAKING ACCOUNT OF THE IRREVERSIBLE STRUCTURAL DEFORMATIONS OF THE SOIL

The authors study the main characteristics of foundation-soil contact models and show that, in order to correctly describe the behaviour of a foundation under load, the model must have at least three parameters. An alternative three-parameter model which takes into account the irreversible structural deformations of the soil is proposed. This model is also valid for a group of piles. Exact solutions were obtained to plane, axial symmetry problems in the case of the loading and unloading of a plate bearing test. Examples of calculation are appended. (TRRL)
