SURFACING OF BLOCKS BY INTERPOSITION OF ELASTOMER SLABS

SURFACAGE DES BLOCS PAR INTERPOSITION DE PLAQUES EN ELASTOMERES

After recalling the role of the cement paste surface dressing which ensures the satisfactory distribution of loads in the material tested, the author outlines a method which eliminates all preliminary preparations of the blocks to be tested by interposing composite polyurethane elastomer slabs. These slabs consist of two superimposed sheets that are of different hardness and are glued together. Five different solutions were tried out before the final model was developed, the efficiency of which was demonstrated by intensive use in four plant laboratories over a year. Mention is made of the limits of use, conduct of tests, setting up of the law of correspondence elastomer slab/cement paste, durability of the slabs, comparative tests, and economic advantages of the method.
