URBAN AND RURAL SIGNALIZATION - REGULATIONS IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES

SIGNALISATION URBAINE ET ROUTIERE - REGLEMENTATIONS ETRANGERES

Details are given of the plan of the technical report on the present knowledge of the vision of traffic signals: (1) introduction defining the limits of the work and the terms used; (2) list and analysis of the factors which must be taken into account in the visual effectiveness of the signals; (3) data on photometry and optics of signals. Three annexes are appended: (a) list of references; (b) list of current national and international regulations; (c) guidelines for the taking of measurements. A special study is conducted of the influence of colour as regards signal visibility, minimum and maximum values for various uses of signals, light distribution, uniformity of luminance over the surface of the signal, phantom effect, plate at the back of signals, and presentation of photometric results.
