PREVENTING FOULING IN SEAWATER COOLING SYSTEMS

After a brief discussion of hull fouling and antifouling coatings with an organo-tin base, the Author (of the International Tin Research Institute) discusses the protection of seawater cooling systems, inlet boxes, heat exchangers, and similar equipment in which it is difficult to apply antifouling coatings. Protection of these systems and equipment can be obtained with Toxion Two, a water based organo-tin antifouling injection-system developed by F.A. Hughes & Co. Ltd of Epsom. The article includes a description of the Toxion Two system and mentions that its running costs are comparatively low, that it helps to reduce a ship's operating costs, and that it is in use in over a hundred tankers and many other types of ship, both British and foreign.
