EcoTrain explores new routes to sustainable traction
The reduction of emissions and fuel consumption on non-electrified secondary railroad lines could be aided by finding a cost-effective solution for the conversion of existing diesel trains to hybrid traction. Harnessing lithium-ion battery technology as an alternative to diesel operation is the Deutsche Bahn (DB)-led EcoTrain project in Germany, as featured in this article.
