SAFETY GUIDED DESIGN OF LNG TERMINAL

Safety was the basic consideration in the design of Southern Energy Co.'s LNG import terminal at Elba Island, about 10 miles upstream from the mouth of the Savannah River. The terminal has three storage tanks, each of which can store 400,000 bbls of LNG. Nine 125,000 cu m tankers supply the terminal from Algeria. The baseload facility is described, and safety features of the LNG terminal are highlighted.
