The future lies in brownfield

Engineering companies do not make history but history makes engineering companies. From early 90’s to now, mass rail transit systems have taken advantages of technological improvements and suppliers ability to specify systems has improved. At the same time, customers started to focus on systems life cycle cost and therefore to look preferably for standardised and maintainable systems Trapped between supplier and customer, the job of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) consultant had to change and will continue to change. This text uses an historical and technological approach to explain what has been the past, what the present is and what should be the future of CBTC consulting.
