CONCERNING THE ADDITIONAL LOAD TRANSMITTED DURING THE TENSION PHASE TO THE CENTERING OF A STRAIGHT PRESTRESSED REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAM SUPPORTED AT BOTH ENDS

The tension of the cables in a straight prestressed reinforced concrete beam supported at both ends, can eventually induce in certain of the centering strands, an additional state of compression with regard to that occurring in the cast hardening phase. A procedure is described for determining the eventual presence increased load, and for identifying the sections of the centering affected as well as the values of the increased load in the relative strands. A numerical example shows an increase of nearly 85 percent in compressive load in certain centering strands during the tensioning phase, as compared to the cast hardening phase. (TRRL)
