The paper deals with the principles of urban traffic control. The application of UTC to Norwich and also the system that is being installed are described. The difficulties of incorporating roundabout junctions into an UTC system are given as are means of solving the problems. UTC systems and the choice between the various types are discussed. Of the benefits in introducing a system the savings in accidents and car park signing are highlighted, and possible future developments suggested. (TRRL)
