DETERMINATION OF THE MOISTURE CONTENT OF SOILS AND ROCKS USING A DRYING OVEN. STANDARD UNE 7-328

DETERMINACION DE LA HUMEDAD DE SUELOS Y ROCAS MEDIANTE SECADO EN ESTUFA, NORMA UNE 7-328

This standard describes the way of determining the moisture content of soils and rocks by means of a drying oven. The equipment and hardware necessary for this test are: a weighing scale, a drying oven, a glass dryer operating on calcium chloride or silicon based gel, containers large enough for samples, and tweezers. The conduct of the tests consists in weighing a representative quantity of wet soil, drying it until constant weight is reached and later weighing the dry sample. The standard indicates how to express the results. The drying time depends on the kind of soil and on the sample size. Soils containing plaster require a lower drying temperature. This standard corresponds to Standards NLT 102-72 and ASTM D-2216. (TRRL)
