DEFORMATION MEASUREMENTS WITHIN A STRUCTURE WITH STRAIN GAUGES INCORPORATED IN THAT STRUCTURE

MESURE DE DEFORMATION A L'INTERIEUR D'UNE CONSTRUCTION PAR JAUGES INCORPOREES

The paper reviews briefly the principle and different applications of this technique. The technique proposed uses materials currently available on the market, in particular prefabricated and prewired sensors, glued between two thin araldite plates having characteristics as close as possible to those of the model material (sandwich technique). In order to study the response of a spatial three-dimensional sensor in a steep gradient plane stress field, the test results are presented for measuring apparatus inserted close to a hole in a flat sample in tension. Agreement with theory is good. (TRRL)
