AAPT/ISAP International Forum: Development of Unmodified Binder Specifications for India
Over the next two decades, India plans to engage in significant road construction, much of which will use only bituminous mixtures. Guidelines for the development of pavement materials, design and construction are necessary in order to ensure the quality of the roads. This article presents an overview of the existing unmodified binder specifications and the work of IIT Madras along with Bureau of Indian Standards in providing rational binder specifications for India. Also presented is a review of the existing processing methods for binder production, followed by a brief history of binder specifications and a discussion of the new binder specifications for India.
