This paper discusses the properties of fibre reinforced concrete construction materials which influence their design and application and in particular their durability. It is hoped that it will encourage discussion with the objective of the preparation of detailed recommendations for tests. Following a definition of fibre reinforced concrete, the presentation of the different types of fibre, the manufacture of fibre concrete and the properties of composite materials, the report identifies the properties of fibre reinforced concrete, discusses their importance and comments on their determination. These properties are:- (1) for fresh concrete: rheology, flow characteristics, compactibility; (2) fibre content: distribution and orientation; (3) porosity and permeability; (4) thermal properties, expansion, conductivity; (5) stress-deformation behaviour; (6) shear strength; (7) impact strength and tenacity; (8) shrinkage and creep; (9) fatigue strength; (10) durability. /TRRL/
