EVALUATION OF THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE VIBRATIONS OF SOIL AND THOSE OF STRUCTURAL FOUNDATIONS

It is shown that the calculation of buildings according to a dynamic method but ignoring the behaviour of the soil, can contain important errors especially if the buildings are constructed in regions subjected to earthquakes. A simple model analyzes the differences between the vibration of a soil and that of a foundation. The transfer coefficient is determined, with which it is possible to find a correspondence between the amplitude and frequencies of the soil and those of the foundation. Concrete examples are given. /TRRL/
