VEBIMOBE does not seek shortest but most sustainable route: traffic sign database shows good basis for development sustainable route navigation

VEBIMOBE zoekt niet kortste maar meest duurzame route : verkeersbordendatabank blijkt goede basis voor ontwikkeling duurzame routenavigatie

In Belgium, every two school days there is a collision between a pupil and a truck. And every three days there is a fatal accident due to eXcessive speed. However, it is perfectly possible to equip vehicles with software that makes road transport planning more sustainable and safer and imposes excessive speed. The most important building block for these two interventions is already available: the Flemish traffic sign database. This is evidenced by the results of VEBIMOBE, a survey of Smart Mobility (formerly Flemish Institute of Mobility), in collaboration with the University of Ghent.
