EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL IN CVCC ENGINE SYSTEM

Since the introduction of the CVCC stratified-charge exhaust emission control system by Honda, the system has been gradually refined to meet increasingly stringent Japanese and American emission standards. The paper outlines factors affecting the characteristics of the CVCC engine design and the location of the auxiliary combustion chamber in relation to the configuration of the main combustion chamber. Details are given of detail changes made to refine the indicated specific fuel consumption (isfc) and exhaust emission (hc and nox) characteristics of the engine design. (TRRL)
