Rail Relationships
This article explores best practices for planning and development near freight train operations. The author discusses the importance of protecting the integrity, capacity and viability of railroad corridors, which can set favorable conditions for the economic attractiveness and competitiveness of a region. The article highlights areas in which railroads are considered most favorable than other ground transportation sources, including: environment; funding and congestion; and safety. The author offers suggestions for master planning of rail facilities and areas near rail.
