Here Come the Robot Cars
This article explores the emergence of autonomous vehicles (AVs) as the next transformative technology in the transportation industry. The authors discuss potential changes in travel behavior that may result from the rise in AVs as well as their potential impact on road design, signage and signalization, drop-off zones, bike and pedestrian networks, and parking. The article also addresses how planners may want to approach the rise of AVs in order to best be prepared and responsive to this technology.
