How to design self-sufficient residential satellites with low car dependency?
Hvordan utforme selvforsynte boligsatellitter med lav bilavhengighet?
In cities expecting population growth, politicians and residents often suggest expansion of existing or development of new residential satellites outside the city. These areas often have high car dependency. In many cities, such development takes place parallel to objectives of limiting car traffic and increasing the share of pedestrians, bicyclers and public transport users. The aim of this report is to increase the knowledge among local decision makers on how such residential areas can and should be developed if they are to offer a minimum of retail and services, as well as increase pedestrian share on daily travel within the area and enable good public transport services. This implies that retail should serve the local market.
