All Recreational Boating Safety is Local

BoatUS estimates that only three percent of the boating public takes a safety class from any recreational boating safety (RBS) organization, and 85 percent of the boating public doesn’t even know that these organizations exist. Although many RBS organizations like to think of themselves as “the” go-to civilian RBS agency, the sad truth is that all of these organizations are falling short of the common goal, reaching the boating public. This article focuses on increasing cooperation and collaboration with recreational boating safety partners at the local level to increase effectiveness. Local partnerships can extend the reach to those not currently touched by current efforts.
