Articles on Parking Policy

This thesis discusses how the private automobile is the most dominant form of transportation in most Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries even though it spends more than 95% of its service life idle. The thesis shows how there are four reasons that parking is of interest to scientific research. The first is the fact that parking plays an important role in the decision on whether to possess and/or use a car. The second fact is that parking takes (a lot of) space and space is particularly scarce in urban areas. The third fact is that parking is a very costly infrastructure to provide, and the fourth fact is that parking related income is a major source of income for many local authorities.
